I would advise students not to give up! The road to finding research is definitely difficult. I would recommend to not hesitate to reach out, most people are willing to help

Research Topic: The Impacts of Residential Segregation on Racial Disparities in Sexually Transmitted Infections: Detroit Metropolitan Area 2015-2019 Graduation Year: 2024

Undergraduate Research in the Neighborhoods

Bhavya’s project was aimed to understand the relationship between residential segregation and racial disparities in sexually transmitted infections (STIs) among women in the Detroit Metropolitan Area (DMA) between 2015-2019. Pregnant women with an STI or treated for an STI at the time of their infant’s birth were obtained from the Michigan Vital Statistics Birth Records and used to spatially map the mothers to their residence. Bhavya found that the DMA is highly segregated at both the city/township and census tract levels; and STIs have a high incidence in areas of high segregation within the DMA. Disparities in STIs are experienced by all mothers regardless of race, however, in a racially mixed city/township, racial disparities for Black mothers are prominent. All in all, it can be understood that racial disparities within STIs exist in the DMA.
